| Nathanael G. Herreshoff, the
"WIZARD OF BRISTOL" is one of the most famous if not the most famous yacht
designer in American History. From 1878 until 1934 the designs of "Captain Nat"
amazed the American public and revolutionized the boating world. All Herreshoff boats were
completely Nat's designs in that he designed and manufactured the rigging, and fittings as
well as the boat itself. Many Herreshoff boats are sill sailing seventy or more years
later. |

| The simple yet beautiful HOLLOW
Herreshoff Cleat is a fine' example of the design genius of Nat Herreshoff. It is stronger
yet lighter than the solid cleats of the same configuration produced today. Although much
more difficult to manufacture, Capt. Nat felt the advantages of strength and weight
reduction far outweighed the production difficulties. The 6 1/2"
cleat of this desk set is of cast bronze and is made to Herreshoff Mfg. Co. pattern No.
4758. It is mounted on a solid wood base and is set off by two Quill Co. gold filled pens.
The Quill pen is a quality writing instrument and is refillable.
